What is the Native Nation Rebuilders Program and why should I apply?

The Native Nation Rebuilders Program is an innovative two year tribal leadership program where participants learn about Nation Building and how to implement Nation Building in their community. This program was designed for changemakers, knowledge keepers, and tribal citizens within the 23 Native Nations of Minnesota, North Dakota, and South Dakota that are working towards positive change in their community through grassroots and governance efforts. Is a Nomination Form required for my application?

A Nomination Form is not a requirement for your application or selection. This form is for individuals to nominate tribal citizens they believe have the leadership skills and tribal governance knowledge to succeed in the program. We will reach out to nominees to encourage them to apply, if they haven’t already. If you are nominated, you still need to complete an online application form, two reference forms, and an employer commitment form. A nomination does not improve your chances of selection; it is simply a means of encouraging potential applicants.

How will I know if my required application materials have been received?

Once your application is complete, you will receive a notification that it has been sent to Native Governance Center. When your other required application materials are sent (i.e. reference forms, employer commitment form) you will receive a confirmation email that your application is complete. Who is on the selection committee?

Members of the selection committee are experts in Nation Building who remain anonymous during the process. Native Governance Center staff are not on the selection committee and do not have input on or make decisions in selecting applicants.

What does the selection committee look for in my application?

The selection committee will look for your levels of community involvement, definition of community, demonstration of tribal leadership and governance knowledge, and how you plan to use the program to positively impact your community.

Does the online application form save my responses?

Yes, you can save your progress and resume the form later. In order to do so, you will be required to enter an email address and create a password. To help avoid the risk of losing your work, it may be helpful to type your responses in a separate document, then copy and paste your responses into the form when you are ready to submit your application.

What is the deadline for submission?

Your application is only complete if all required forms are submitted by the deadline. Completed application form, references, and employer support letters were due by September 11, 2019 at 11:59PM CST. Incomplete applications will not be considered.
